The UNTL understands the importance of a Faculty of Law during this particular period of creating a new Timorese legal system after independence. For the implementation and in need to build up a Law System in Timor-Leste, in 2005 was inaugurated a Faculty of Law, in cooperation with Portuguese Universities Foundation.
The Faculty of Law retains close links with partner Portuguese universities: Coimbra, Évora, Oporto, Lisbon and Minho.In 2011, from an initial number of 68 students, only eight students were graduated, which four are professors in this university.Until 2012, 49 students were graduated. In this present year there are 110 students in Law course.
Objectives
Faculty of Law aims to train professionals of excellence.
The course of Law aims at providing students with a set of basic legal knowledge, to wit the tools that jurists to-be must really know no matter their specific area of work. The most rigorous, update notionsthat national and foreign legal science have advanced are provided as well. Another goal of this formation program is to provide the student with an ability to select and interpret social events that they are bound to scrutinize under legal viewpoint.
This course is dedicated to the problems of the legal system of East Timor, as well as, contributing to the cultural, human and ethnical training of human resources.As in same way aims to develop the critical/reflexive capacity and understanding legal phenomenon in the society for good governance.

Law Firms, Judiciary, Prosecution, Public Defense, Diplomacy, Civil Service, Registers and Notary, Ministries, Army, International Police and Non-Governmental Organizations, University careers, Research, Private Institutions, Schools, Social Communication.
Mode of Study
The course is delivered in full time schedule.
Access to further studies
The conclusion of the First cycle of Law studies allows the access to the Second Cycle of studies of various areas of knowledge.
Evaluation System
Final exam or continuous assessment.
Appeal season.
Graduation Requirements
Achievement of the passing grade in a set of curricular units that amount to a total of 240 ECTS.
